Welcome to Inclusion in Practice

An introduction from Tom Rees, Chair of the DfE’s Expert Advisory Group for Inclusion.

Inclusive education is a national priority—and a shared responsibility.

While there are many challenges within the SEND system, schools and teachers across the country work every day to create environments where all children can succeed.

As I visit schools up and down the country, I see so many good inclusive practices in action. Inclusion in Practice is a sector-led project designed to capture these examples and deepen our understanding of what successful inclusion looks like.

In collaboration with Ambition Institute, CST, and other system partners, our aim is to strengthen the system by sharing real examples, proven strategies, and the enabling conditions that make inclusion possible.

We invite teachers, school leaders, and everyone involved in inclusive education to contribute their insights—helping us create a resource rooted in both practice and evidence.

How you can get involved

We are now inviting teachers, school leaders, and those involved in delivering education to contribute their experiences and insights through our open submission process. Over the coming months, your examples will help us to develop actionable insights to support schools across the country.

Submit your example of inclusion in practice

We are optimistic that by sharing practical solutions, we can learn from each other and help move the system forward, strengthening inclusion in mainstream education and through breaking down barriers to participation and learning.
Please share the name and email address of a staff member within the school that we can contact to recognise the school's positive work and encourage them to share their example with us.
